7. Door World was established in 1978 by Graham Beckworth and is still going strong in original ownership.

Frequent Misunderstanding

      Window Replacement

1. Did you know that there is a difference between a window frame and a sash? What kind of window do you have? Which part do you need replacing – the window frame or the sash or both?

Be sure what it is exactly you need replacing – if it’s a window frame + sash or just a sash replacement?

Knowing this saves you money!

The supplied door/s must be kept stored flat off the ground, especially concrete, in a dry area before installation. Do not keep the door/s in a area prone to dampness or moisture and not in areas which has been recently painted.

All doors must be inspected on arrival for any visible defects and if need be, report ALL claims BEFORE the door/s are installed, and before the first coat of paint or stain is applied.

All doors must be fitted square, true and plumb. For external doors, three hinges should be fitted. Any doors weighing more than 20 kilograms, and also internal doors that will be effect by large amounts of temperature and or humidity differences on either side of the door faces, such as bathroom or laundry doors, should also have three hinges fitted.

For doors that need to be slightly trimmed to fit an existing opening, then it should be as small as possible and reduced in size equally from both side edges or top/bottom of the door rails. The mortice lock cavity should be kept to minimum size and not fitted at a rail joint.

We have made the panels on solid timber doors specifically to move as the door expands and contracts due to weather and humidity. Please ensure the panels are straight prior to staining or painting.

For doors which have constant exposure to direct sunlight or rain or changes in humidity, this can have a detrimental effect on any solid timber door. The manufacturer does not recommend the hanging of a external/internal door in positions where direct exposure to elements can occur. It is necessary to protect the door to prevent damage by having them under a verandah or eaves. The degree of protection required will depend on the location and aspect where the door will be hung.

Failure to provide this protection will also void your warranty. External doors with any exposure to the sun, must be painted in a light reflecting colour. Do not use dark colours as this will heat the door quicker, resulting in damage.

After the door has been fitted, it should then be taken off the hinges immediately and MUST receive at least one coat of primer or sealer, and two top coats of a high quality paint or timber finish on all 6 sides without delay.

Please note that oil products which include Linseed Oil, Tung Oil, or Danish oil do not seal the timber enough to prevent damage and are not suitable products to use.

For best results in coating your door, lay the door down to get a good even coverage of paint or timber finish, and also ensure it is applied as per the manufacture’s instructions. A once over coat of a primer only will not provide enough protection to the door which may result in the door bowing, twisting or warping over a very short period of time.

Don’t forget to coat the top, bottom and side edges. Also pay attention to any areas that have been cut out, such as letterboxes, locks and hinges are completely and fully painted before the door is hung again. It is also vital that the ‘end grain’ on the top and bottom of the door is completely sealed as this is where moisture attacks the door first which results in swelling, splitting and warping. Regular maintenance of your door should also be done to inspect for any chipping or scratching of paint and to protect the timber from deterioration.

Replacement of door/s is door/s only.
Installation and painting is the responsibility of the customer.

PLEASE INSURE YOU THOROUGHLY READ THIS BEFORE COMMENCING ANY WORK.

As timber is a naturally grown product, it is subject to changes due to variations in humidity and temperature for instance. At the time of manufacture, we ensure the timber has been prepared correctly, but once it leaves the supervision of our warehouse, and in possession of yourself, we cannot guarantee the product against shrinkage, warping or splitting due to specific guidelines.

Defects in the timber are not considered due to natural variations in the colour, texture or grain pattern the timber may have.

It is important to note that internal heating and cooling appliances can also have some effects, therefore the following measures must be taken for both internal and external doors.
